MS4 Rotation 1A.

This entry was originally published at droobius

So I’m doing an ENT– i mean, an otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery– elective. It’s been an interesting few experience. The hours are a *tad* bit long… I get to the hospital at 5:45 and usually get back home between 8-9 in the evening. Add in time for dinner and then an hour or so to read up for the next day’s cases, and… well, this is definitely no summer vacation =) I was post-call today and had to take care of chores around school. I think it’s the first time I’ve been in the sun for more than 30 seconds since I started this month..

Despite the long hours and lack of a social life, it’s been really cool thus far. Some highlights and some lowlights. I actually got to assist on the same operation I had in December, with the same surgeon. Pretty neat.I’ve also had to assist a surgeon with 2 thyroid cases that lasted 7 hours and 6 hours, respectively. On the last case, I was retracting and slowly but gradually falling asleep. My knees buckled and the attending noticed and had to ask if I was alright. I pretended like I just slipped. Quel embarrassment.

I _still_ don’t know what I’m doing for a career. I wish ENT weren’t so darn competitive. And I wish it didn’t have such long hours =) We shall see…

one more week..

This entry was originally published at droobius

  • oral exam - done today
  • evidence based medicine paper - will start (and hopefully finish) today
  • writeup #3 - will start (and hopefully finish) tomorrow
  • shelf exam - friday. last one of the year!

speaking of which, any ideas for a quick, cheap vacation within driving distance of the nyc area? according to my surgeon, i’m not allowed to get my neck exposed to the sun until december. i guess i won’t be stumblin’ the ladies on the beach until next summer. ha. ha.

eeeww.

eddie murphy = prophet?

Akeem, Crown Prince of Zamunda: Sir, did you happen to catch the professional football contest on television last night?
Cleo McDowell: No, I didn’t.
Prince Akeem: Oh sir, the Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. And in the end, the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big “H”. It was a most ripping victory.
Cleo McDowell: Son.
Prince Akeem: Yes?
Cleo McDowell: If you want to keep working here, stay off the drugs.
Prince Akeem: Yes.

Woooooooo! Belichick, get your cameras rolling…. the Giants are going to the Superbowl! (Sadly, I’m on call on Superbowl Sunday….)
